Just a few weeks ago gas was at RD$204 or, $6.00US~~(peso was at 34= $1). This morning when we were driving home from church we noticed the sign at the gas station... $141.20. ~~or, $4.00 ~~(peso is at 35.20 = $1). WOW! It has been slowly dropping each week, but this was a 14 peso drop from last Saturday! What a major savings that will be for everyone!
Our new vehicle, which gets about 40mpg, should be in port this week. Yes, our new vehicle actually is being shipped here from Japan and is arriving supposedly tomorrow on a container ship.
Then it has to clear customs, go to the dealership and have the 'defensas' installed. "Defensas" are tubular safety bars mounted to the front of the vehicle that prevent the radiator and other engine parts from being damaged in a 'minor' accident. Believe me, they are not a luxury add-on but a much needed accessory!
We might just have it within 2 weeks. But this is the Dominican Republic, where 'manana' (that should have the little wavey thing over the first 'n' but I can never get my computer to do that, sorry Dee!) can actually mean tomorrow, or it can mean "Yes, I am saying tomorrow, because I have no clue when it will really happen, but it will make everyone happy if I say 'manana'. And I will continue to say manana, until manana is the day it actually happens."
So we are being told about 2 weeks. We'll let you know how that goes.
Pictures will be posted when it arrives. A couple of good things that Bob discovered~~ The vehicle we are getting is the Diahatsu Terrios 7 seater...which is the same model as the Toyota Rush. But the Rush sells for much more, because it says Toyota instead of Diahatsu on the vehicle! Also, he couldn't find any negative customer comments about the Terrios when he researched it online!
Fuel savings aside, I'll be very happy to finally have a vehicle where the AC and the windows work properly!!!
love,
~~anna~~

wow! i shouldn't have been complaining when gas crept up to almost $4 a gallon here, huh? we are rejoicing in seeing it down to $2.20. i'm excited for your new wheels. :)
ReplyDeleteI am also grateful to see gas prices fall. But, I am not seeing grocery prices fall, they still keep going up! I am thanful for Aldi's, their apples(3lb) was $1.50, while Walmart's (5lb) bag was almost $6,50.
ReplyDelete~Margaret, Our gas rose to $4.00 a gallon back in August of 2004 and has not been lower since then! We save $$$ on gas when we return to the States.
ReplyDelete~Janal, $6.50 for 5#s...yeeouch!
I think Aldi's has improved in the quality of many of their items, too. Sure can't beat their prices. I wonder if their sales have increased in the past month. Sure wish we had them here.
That's pretty unusual for a 7-seater to get such great gas mileage . . . praise God for His provision! Let's hope "manana" comes soon!
ReplyDeleteCharity, it's not a large 7 seater. If there are 7 people on board, they will not be carrying their luggage with them by any means! ha!
ReplyDeleteanna - if you have a regular desktop, just make sure your numbers lock key is on, then hold down the alt key while typing 164 on the number pad. the ñ should just pop up when you lift your little fingers :)
ReplyDeleteif it's a laptop, i'll give you other instructions ..... later....
It's a laptop, dee. With Vista if that makes any difference in the directions.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Charity~ It's a model that does NOT sell in the US. Probably doesn't meet all the emissions standards. ut it does have airbags, etc.
ReplyDeleteoooo, a laptop. it's harder to explain, but i'll try.
ReplyDeleteyou still have to turn on the numbers lock key (mine is F11). then hold down both the Fn and Alt keys while typing in the number 164. you must use the numbers that are on your letter keypad, though. they are found in the lower right-hand corner of the keys 7,8,9,u,i,o,j,k,l,m (i believe). give it a try and see if it works. if so, i can send you more codes for letters with accents, up-side-down punctuation, etc. :)
I have tried and tried, but wavy n for me! All that happened when I followed the instructions, is that I ended back on my blog page, and off my posting page.
ReplyDeleteDoes it matter than I have Vista on this laptop? I've not had problems with Vista since I got this computer a year ago. But in trying to add a Vista ready printer...well, david told me to call HP support as he didn't have a clue why it installs everything but the actual printer....I have all the files, shortcuts, etc, but I cannot locate my printer anywhere on my computer....
Is this why people don't like Vista???
nope, doesn't matter that it's Vista. that's what todd has on his laptop, too, and i can still type in the codes....
ReplyDeletesorry.
